A Book on Servant Leadership is set to be launched on 8th June, by Apostle James K. Abbrey

A Book, Leading by Serving, is a precept, practical and principles from the Lord Jesus authored by Apostle James Kofi Abbrey will be launched on 8th June 2019.

The book which has both English and Akan translation has been recommended by some Professors and gallant men of God including Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, Bishop Charles Agyinasare, Rt. Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah, Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong- Manso, Bishop Samuel N. Mensah.

The author of this book challenges Christian leaders in this generation to learn from the Lord’s leadership style.

Sharing his motivation for writing the book, Apostle Abbrey said, looking at several leadership styles which have been adopted, whether circular leadership style or Christian leadership style “I came to understand that, people have taken serving leadership as optional leadership style but with the words of Jesus Christ it is not an optional leadership style but a mandatory leadership style.”

This, he said informed his decision to expatiate on four verses of Matthew 24 -28 where the discourse took place and this made him write 10,000 words of study on what kind of leadership Jesus wants everybody especially Christian leaders to adopt while he was in school at Akrofi-Christaller Institute Mission and Culture

Servant Leader

According to him, it challenged him looking at the leadership styles adopted in the country which is optional leadership style, adding that, it dawned on him not to keep it as academic work but rather expatiate for other leaders so they could follow the blue print of Jesus Christ.

It is the only way by which Christian leaders could influence their folds positively and impact on the systems of this world, Apostle Abbrey stated.

Serving as a leader, the author said, “you can live to the level of your followers and together with them you raise them up.”

This, the author indicated, no matter the background or  the influence as a politician, circular leader, religious leader or traditional kind of leadership, the moment they take the position as a leader they must lead by serving.

Looking at the circular environment, he pointed out, there are several leadership styles where one could be autocratic looking at their personal interest while others are bossy where they are just there for people to know they are leading but the author noted that, it is not the position per se but how the person leads.

“I am coming from the perspective where it is not necessary that you have to become a servant but to serve the interest of the people because when you serve the people, they serve you forever,”- he said.

The book which has been recommended by gallant religious leaders in the country  including the former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah who said “Leadership comes in various forms and levels but the underlying principle for success remains the same: “-whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” Math. 20:26 (NIV), adding that, therefore to lead is to serve and to serve faithfully is to become great.

“Hear Apostle Kofi Abbrey in this book and learn the invaluable secrets that have made him one of the great leaders of our generation. I recommend this book to everyone who wishes to lead,”- he recommended.

The General Overseer of Royalhouse Chapel, Rt. Rev. Sam Korankye Ankrah noted that, the leadership patterns of the political and religious time of Jesus were characterised with dictatorship and heroism.

On the contrary, he pointed out that, the core factors of the leadership pattern of the lord Jesus were that of love, service, and humility which in capsule could be referred to as servant leadership.

“If Christian leaders of our century want to impact our world and fulfill the mission of the church, then they need to lead in Jesus’ way. It is however disappointing that, some Christian leaders still make themselves dictators and heroes and yet claim to be servants of God, “- Rt. Rev. Ankrah said.

The General Overseer of Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare pointed out that, although the subject of servant-leadership seems so threadbare and well-worn especially by authors in the past half-century, Apostle James Abbrey’s book gives a unique intellectual perspective that underscores the importance of doing leadership Christ’s way, that is, through service.

“This book is definitely a must-read,”- he said.

The book launch which will bring together great men of God, friends and family as well as notable religious leaders would be launched at the British Council exactly 4:00 pm to officially unveil the book.
