Racism and Injustice in America against African-Americans has being a dogma since they where first introduced and enslaved in the American community. 400 years after slavery, America have gone through several law reforms concerning black people, from the freedom of slaves, Jim Crow laws to the current situation of Police Brutality and Injustice.
In the year 2020, several African-Americans have being victims of racism and police brutality, costing many lives. The recent death of George Floyd, an African-American man, who was murdered by police, has caused an uproar and unrest in the whole of America and other parts of the world. His death, has been a catalyst for a major protest and a revolution to demand reforms in the American justice law.
Also, since the incident has attracted a global attention, Some Africans made the decision to support the protest to demand justice for George Floyd and the American people. Apparently, Africans who gave a voice for justice, were slandered one way or the other for not focusing on the many injustices and problems Africa already experience that needed drastic change. These people were branded as hypocrites and self centered, since Injustice, Tribalism, Nepotism and Corruption has flooded the African system whiles they gave a blind eye.
In the wake of the matter, some Africans believe the incident in American being confronted, shouldn’t be their problem. Neither should they be bothered, but quickly forget, it’s against their own kind and people which they can also fall a victim by any chance possible. Not only in America does racism exist nor against only African-Americans, but in every non African country, and to every black person. As Martin Luther king said, ”Injustice Any Where Is A Threat To Justice Everywhere.”
Inasmuch as there is an uprising and a major protest in America and other countries, justice and a law reform won’t be a win for only the African diaspora but for every black person as well. It will bring about total liberation and eradicate the Inferiority Complex, Police Brutality and the Injustices which is experienced by the African community worldwide. The victory, will be for the African diaspora and every black person who will find themselves in any part of the world and will not live in fear because of their skin colour. There is a need for every African to support this cause for good and not see it as a problem for only the diaspora. It is a fact that, we are facing our own problems of tribalism and religious discrimination. There haven’t being any form of injustice due to ones tribal grounds and neither has anybody being murdered due to their tribal affiliation.
Moreover, the problem of racism is deep. It is rooted in African and we also have the solution to end it. If racism is not confronted and eradicated, it will hunt the black race and the future generation, that will lead to possible self hate. With the solution, Africa needs to break all non progressive bonds with the oppressors, build Africa to a standardised and powerful continent and create opportunities with it wealth and resources. When a great African continent is achieved, it will potray a good image of black people globally, which will bring enough respect to every black person and eventually reduce or eradicate racism completely. The African diaspora will reconsider a return home in order to live their best life, free from discrimination.Written by: Nii Okai Tagoe
