The Ambassador for Diaspora Youth Affairs, Mr. Jake Obeng-Bediako has lauded Youth Policy Initiative (YPI) for instituting the National Youth Day in Ghana to contribute to national development.
Mr. Obeng-Bediako made this remarks when the leadership of YPI paid a courtesy call on him in his office in Accra.
National Youth Day
The call was to afford YPI the opportunity to learn about his office and also introduce the theme for 2019 National Youth Day to him.
This year’s edition is themed “The Future of Work for the youth of Africa in a fast changing technological advancement” is scheduled to come off in October.
The Ghana National Youth Day was instituted to rally the youth of to one platform, and dedicate at least one day in the year to vigorously discuss issues that affect them.
In the discussion, the ambassador opined that, Ghanaian youth abroad and locally has been identifying similar problems confronting our country.
However, they seem to have brilliant but irreconcilable approaches to solve them thereby resulting to inapplicable solutions in most cases.
This, he said, is attributed to lack of platforms that would coordinate and bring the youth from the different backgrounds together for common purposes.
“I think it’s important to link Ghanaian youth abroad who have appreciable amount of resources to their local counterparts to design and implement solutions that can apply to our circumstances,” Mr. Obeng – Bediako said.
Commending YPI for the visit, he said his doors are always opened to all young people across Ghana.
“I commend YPI for the National Youth Day initiative. It’s a great initiative that we ought to uphold,” the ambassador lauded.
Mr. Obeng -Bediako further pledged to support the National Youth Day in any means he can to make it more impactful.
YPI team was led by the Executive Director of YPI, Mr. David Kyetong Guun accompanied by other executives Ms. Jennifer Gbarinaa, Mr. Oska Benjamin, Mr. Paul Yereh and Ms. Deborah Derry.
YPI is a Ghana based CSO focused on inclusive youth development. It’s mission is to initiate and collaborate with others where necessary to press for workable policies that affect young people. It does this through research, training and advocacy. The organisation has a vision to become a model institution for inclusive youth development globally.
