As part of promoting quality education, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to humanitarian activities, World Inspiring Network (WIN) has donated learning materials to Osunu Dompe, a community in Accra to commemorate the African Union Day.
Gifted items comprised of school bags, exercise books, pens, pencils, razors, clothes, and food items.
During the presentation, the President of the Network, Mr. Maxwell Odonkor asserted that this gesture of magnanimity was as an upshot of a survey carried out by the Network in November last year.
Subsequently, they found it as a matter of exigency to pay a visit to Osunu Dompe, a deprived community in the Greater Accra Region.
Journey of Love
On their visitation last year, a team of the network discovered that the community possessed only one primary school that starts from Nursery and ends at class four (4).
This, he noted, was heartbreaking and overly pathetic to see almost all class four pupils still using slates as their writing tools.
They were devoid of any other writing tools but chalks on slates – a strong low point against the SDGs which demands that there should be good Education for all.
“We, therefore, were challenged to embark on an outreach project titled ‘Journey of Love’ to this community with every support we got,” Mr. Odonkor stated.
According to him, it was executed to buttress government effort in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and contributing to national development as youth.
Accepting the items on behalf of the school, a teacher in the community, Ms. Thereza Adjetey expressed excitement and appreciation to the team.
“It was a vision come true because most organizations promise to support us but never come back. This is the first time ever to have received items in our community,”- Ms. Adjetey said.
As a way of showing gratitude, the Chief of Osunu Dompe Community applauded the President for encouraging his team and other partners to come to their aid.
Knowing the relevance literate population has on socio-economic development, the team empowered them so that the younger generation could make informed choices and decisions.
They advised them on how reading could help them to develop their intellect, and also help improve on their social skills.
The event ended successfully through the support of other partners which included Maxibern Digital, Barima TV, YouSort World, Jopep Estate Developers, Church of Pentecost and assistance from some individual donors.
World Inspiring Network is a registered charitable Non-Governmental Organization established to make generational impact through volunteerism and patriotism.
The team consists of young and vibrant youth who are passionate about providing solutions to most of Africa’s challenges.
The team focused mainly on the first six (6) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), including No Poverty, No Hunger, Good Health, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation.Editor: Mr. Kwabena Asare Baffour
