Until we change our minds and attitudes, things will never get right. We are in a country where authorities treat students like kids where their freedom is restricted while Employees treat employers like they are doing them a favour and customers are treated like rags; where after usage it is thrown somewhere.
This must stop! It is never right because, it is scratch my back, I scratch your back affair. Until, authorities understand that students are their children and must care, respond to their needs and give them a listening ear, things will not get better. I do not believe authorities treat their biological children at home like the way they treat their students.
Our Relationship with Students
Students want value for money because, a future of debt is scary, therefore they would always want to do things which seems right to them, as authorities, if that is not so, what prevents you from dialoguing with them and explaining things to them for them to have a better understanding. They have every right to enjoy their freedom and right on their various campuses because they paid for it. Student must be treated with respect as authorities respect their children at home.
Teachers and authorities should always understand that, they are there because of the students, hence they must be given the needed attention and care to address their concerns. I know sometimes, some students are very troublesome and must be dealt with appropriately, but my question still remains, the way you are handling the student, is that how you handle your child at home?
When authorities think of students as customers, it influences how they teach. It would bring great impact in our educational system. This would push students out of their comfort zones, and to challenge the logic of their thinking, or giving critical feedback on issues.
Until employers see that, employees are the backbone to their companies therefore they need to treat them well and give them a listening ear, companies will continue to suffer or struggle to survive.
Employees will go the extra mile for a company when they know that the company cares about them. Some employers do not respect their employees because, they are the ones paying them, but ask yourself why didn’t you do it all by yourself if you could and have all the knowledge to propel the business.
Customer they say is the lifeline to the existence of any organization, others even sarcastically put it that no customer no business. This is the sort of prominence people in business and commerce give to the customer.
One thing we must understand is anyone who works for a living has a customer, and must be held in high esteem.
This is because, customers decide whether you and your business will survive and how much money you can make. Customers also decide when to go to work and when to go home. Hence, my question is this: Why does the Ghanaian business community pay so little attention and respect to this group of people which has so much power?
We must change our minds and do things right. School authorities, employers among other service providers who treats customers like they are doing them a favour must change their thought. It is high time we should understand we need each other and we are working for each other to promote socio-economic development.
Ghana would be a better place if we change our minds.
