Service to humanity is always service to God, therefore i am always filled with joy in serving humanity.
It was mixed feelings when I joined Unilime Foundation to visited Echoing Hills to do donation and empower the children. It was my first experience to personally have an encounter with people who have all forms of disability including Cerebral palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome and Visual impairment. I began to reflect on the realities of life. Some say life is unfair while others think it is a punishment from God of a sin someone or a relative committed. What i know from the bible is that, God does not judge us by our iniquities therefore God does not publish. Also, all things work together for good for those that love God, so l ask myself, should someone suffer this way for something good.
Upon reflecting on all these thoughts in life, I began to interact with them. Even though I was scared and careful, thinking they can hurt me due to their aggressiveness. I realise they were very happy and very sociable. Some of them were singing even though it was not audible, others were dancing while others were playing ampe with the volunteers. Some were also struggling and cannot do anything for themselves.
They wish to enjoy such love on daily basis, but the story is different. It is different in the sense that, most of them were from rich homes, but they were abandoned in such homes because, looking at the calibre of the residents in the society or community, their parents felt shy and embarrassed when they get visitors to see their children in such conditions whiles others are too busy to handle them since they need special attention on a daily basis.
When they abandon their children in that state in Orphanages or homes, they don’t visit them frequently to show them love. Some don’t visit them because, whenever they visit or see them, they feel depressed and it causes them so much pain whiles other parents have this superstitious belief that, they are from the sea. I learnt that, happiness or joy is not cheap, you may have all the money on earth but you may not be happy.
In life, you need to appreciate whatever you have because, all that glitters is not gold. No matter the condition you are in, be happy and appreciate it. Some things you wish to have, comes with its conditions. Conditions that could take your life or bring disgrace.
When you meet a disabled person of any form, please show them love. Smile to them if that is only thing you can offer them. Assist them if they need any form of help from you because, they did not choose to be in that condition.
Organisations and philanthropists should visit orphanages especially those that have children with special needs. You don’t need to help or show people you know only with love but anyone who comes your way. You don’t know where you will meet them.
The earth rotates in circle, therefore you may be happy today, and tomorrow you will be sad. You may be rich today, tomorrow will be poor. You may be the boss today, tomorrow you will be a subordinate. You may be a driver today, tomorrow you will be a mate. You may be a landlord or lady today, tomorrow you will be a tenant. To cap it all, no condition is permanent so be mindful of how you treat people in life. Treat people with love.
